Tried and Tested: Color MAD's Non-Toxic Tips

Luxury nail lacquer at its finest.

Getting your nails done can really lift the mood, but one drawback is the havoc that varnish can wreak on your health. Upon realizing just how many chemicals are found within the typical bottle of nail polish, Color MAD founder Eko Wang decided to take matters into her own hands — both literally and figuratively — by developing her own eco-friendly brand. Her new line utilizes Aqua, a water based range of fingernail polish that avoids the usual unpronounceable string of chemical ingredients. This makes them safe for pregnant women and anyone concerned about applying chemical varnish to their hands; it also peels off one to eight days later, eliminating the need to apply additional chemicals in the form of nail polish remover.

Color MAD Nail Bar

This chic nail bar can be found on the ground floor of the Lane Crawford shopping mall on Huaihai Zhong Lu. The manicure process is just like any other, with a manicurist shaping our nails and trimming the cuticles before applying a base coat, single color, and top coat. Within five minutes, the polish was set, and six days later the color was still chip-free and perfect. When we were finally ready to swap hues, the paint easily peeled off in one piece, leaving our nails intact.

Variations of Color MAD include Nano, which is made with ceramic particles that allow nails to breathe, and the PRO, a light gel range that’s even easier to soak off. If you prefer to pamper yourself at home, grab a Color MAD box set (three bottles/¥380) or a single bottle (¥128) from Lane Crawford, LOL at the K11mall, or 10 Corso Como.
