When the weather heats up as much as it does in Shanghai, sometimes all you want to do is jump in a pool to cool off – even if you're fully clothed! We've rounded up the best outdoor pools in Shanghai where you can make the most of the weather and stay cool at the same time.

Mandarin City

At the center of the Mandarin City apartment complex, a few blocks from Hongmei Lu in Hongqiao, you will find your go-to hub for swimming, drinks and pool-side fun. This place has it all: plenty of deck chairs and tables, a kiddie pool, swim-up bar with snack food and even a fancy-looking grotto to chill beside. The weekends tend to get busy so arrive early to secure your spot next to the pool!

Find it: 788 Hongxu Lu, near Huaihai Zhong Lu

Opening Hours: Daily from 7am to 8pm (Mondays open from 11am and Thursdays from 1pm)

Price: ¥100/day

Shimao Riviera Garden

If you live in Pudong, or are willing to hop on over, Shimao Riviera Garden pool is not to be missed. They’ve got a massive family-friendly pool complete with a man-made beach which is sure to please the kids as well as offer up that taste of vacation we all yearn for.

Find it: 1 & 2 Weifeng Xi Lu, near Pucheng Lu

Opening Hours: Daily from 10am– 7pm (Mondays open from 12pm)

Price: ¥200/day

Grand Plaza Club House

This quaint little pool is nestled in the heart of the French Concession on Julu Lu. Though the pool is not so "grand" in size, it does have a small children’s pool, a few staggered deck chairs and tables and a great atmosphere for those seeking a relaxed day of swimming. The attached clubhouse offers snacks and drinks that you are surprisingly allowed to take poolside, and if the heat gets too much for you, you can head upstairs to Maya for lunch – one of Shanghai’s great Mexican restaurants. This pool is a good choice if you’re looking for a mid-week daytime getaway, but be warned that it will be packed and overbearing on the weekends.

Find it: 568 Julu Lu, near Shanxi Lu

Opening Hours: Daily from 9am – 9pm

Price: ¥100/day weekdays and ¥150/day weekends

Ambassy Club

Right in the center of town, across from Shanghai Library on Huaihai Lu, you will find the prestigious Ambassy Court complex and their private club comes at a high price tag to match their "exclusive" benefits. Luckily, residents are allowed to bring up to three guests to their outdoor pool, so hop on the friend-making bandwagon and snag yourself a seat with your new resident bestie. You can also request a trial of the club and its pool for ¥150.

Find it: 1500 Huaihai Lu, near Wulumuqi Zhong Lu

Opening Hours: Daily 9:30am – 7pm (Mondays open from 11:30am)

Price: Free with a resident friend!

Oasis Riviera

If you’re looking to hit up a pool in the Hongqiao/Gubei area but want to avoid the sometimes over-crowded Mandarin City spot, just head 10 blocks south and you’ll find Oasis Riviera, a relatively new find for some of us. It’s not the biggest of pools but definitely more family-friendly, with more room to sit, walk and wade about – plus, it’s one of the cheapest on this list!

Find it: 883 Shuicheng Lu, near Tianshan Lu

Opening Hours: Daily 10am – 8:30pm

Price: ¥60/day

Sofitel Shanghai Sheshan Oriental

Not only does the Sofitel offer a great weekend getaway from the busy city, but it’s also a great day-trip stop-off with some of the best swimming, sun bathing and lounging around. Head over on a Sunday and take advantage of their ¥556 brunch deal which will get you a buffet brunch, free flow drinks and access to the pool for the whole day!

Find it: 3388 Sichen Gong Lu (Songjiang District), near Jiasong Lu

Price: ¥300/day (with access to indoor & outdoor pool, sauna, steam room and fitness center)

New Star

Though you may not think of heading to a bathhouse on a hot summer’s day, New Star is definitely not to be missed. They’ve got a wide array of activities and options on offer including their indoor baths, sauna, steam room, fitness center and lounge chairs as well as a pretty cool, never-crowded outdoor pool.

Find it: 258 Jinhui Nan Lu, near Wuzhong Lu

Holiday Inn Shanghai Kangqiao

Boy oh boy, we just couldn’t deprive you of this awesome pool across the pond in Pudong. Though it may not be your go-to spot for family swimming, we would be amiss to keep this one off the list. All the way up on the 24th floor of the Holiday Inn building, you will find a somewhat small but fear-defying "pool in the sky." Take a quick swim to the end of the 30m pool and you will find yourself swimming high above the streets of Kangqiao – in a glass bottomed pool. This is not for the faint of heart but we cannot wait to try it!

Find it: 1088 Xiuyan Lu. Only open to residents of the hotel, near Zhouyuan Lu
