Winter is coming

As that cooler weather sets in, it will get darker earlier (sigh) and our clothes will also take on more muted tones (hello black, grey and navy). To cheer us up this month, we plan on putting a subtle sparkle into our winter wardrobes, with some statement jewelry from ECHO CHEN and a handcrafted bow tie from WEIXU WANG. It’s also a good time to invest in a tote or pouch with personality from NAH studio, as you’ll be lugging beanies, scarves, gloves and 3M masks around. Last but not least, with the drier weather, your hands and body will need that extra bit of TLC, and Sapo Soapworks have got you covered.

ECHO CHEN

Echo Chen

ECHO CHEN is an accessories brand that focuses on craftsmanship, minimalism and artistry. Founded by Echo Chen, a seasoned interior decorator with over 10 years of experience under her belt, the designs are extra eye-catching, with architectural shapes and designs in various bold block colors. Each piece is handmade and the collections are only available in small batches, making each one unique with its own characteristics. You may have seen her designs at some of the craft fairs and markets around town; her artistic and vibrantly colored booth was what caught our eye in the first place. The squiggle earrings and geometrical block tubular necklaces are our favorites – perfect over a simple sweater or a little black dress. Designs come in a combination of French art clay and/or silver, and are designed for long-lasting wear. WeChat: ecechochen; ecechochen.com

We were lucky enough to discover Sapo Soap Works in time to deal with the skin dryness and irritation that comes with the cold. The company began because of founder and product designer Ruth Ng’s passion for beauty and simplicity. Inspired by the inherent nourishing quality of natural raw materials, the brand carries a collection of body soaps and moisturizers that have had a cult following since 2016. And it’s easy to see why; after trying the almond & cocoa butter body cream I could immediately feel its beneficial effects (bliss!). The products are made from carefully selected botanical oils such as coconut, olive and avocado oil, and extracts such as aloe vera gel, chamomile and rose clay, resulting in rich treats for the skin. Not only do the products feel good, they smell good too; each product carries proprietary scents – which are based on natural perfumery principles – blended from natural essential oils and exotic plant absolutes such as oakmoss and cocoa.

WEIXU WANG

Weixu Wang

This one is for all the dapper dads out there – WEIXU WANG’s bow tie designs are for the modern, stylish gentleman seeking a bit of fun and color in their wardrobe. Designer Weixu Wang has a background in architecture and it definitely shows in all his bow tie designs. Founded in 2011, the brand is known for its signature handmade bow ties that are geometric, boldly colored and with a strong three-dimensional quality that will undoubtedly dress up classic suits and tuxes.

The designs are mostly made from a combination of non-traditional materials, such as ceramic, brass, machine-washable paper textiles, exotic woods, leather, cork and more. These are basically mini works of art to place near the collars of your shirts and we’re pretty sure they’d look good even as a brooch on your plain white tee, on the lapel of a wool coat or as a handbag accessory (so it works for us ladies too!).

NAH STUDIO

NAH Studio is a creative studio established by Dutch designer Lorain - an interior, concept and interactive exhibition designer who has been living and working in Shanghai since 2014. Inspired by her new surroundings, Lorain decided to combine two of her biggest passions: China and design, to bring NAH Studio to life. The result is a collection of quirky and cheeky totes, pouches, notebooks, postcards, clothing and more that plays on English and Chinese phrases, reflecting our daily lives in China.

We love the “Ting Budong Chinese” and “Laowai” totes, as well as the “Laoban” phone covers and “mei you money” zipped pouches. All tote and pouch designs are original and handmade by locals from pure organic cotton. The latest Petite Collection is a special series of clothing created just for kids, with fun phrases such as “my mommy looks piao liang” and “xiao peng you.” WeChat: Loraiin_; WeChat store: NAH_Studio
