Concrete & Grass: The Best Music Festival for Families with Kids!

'Grass life in glorious slow-motion.

by SHFamily | Fri, September 08, 2017

Concrete & Grass is China’s grooviest music festival.

Unfolding over Saturday, 16th to Sunday, 17th September, it features 60+ bands across five stages – all set in the intimate, beautiful grassy fields of the Shanghai Rugby Football Club. From rock and pop to jazzy electronic music and mellow hip-hop, there’s something for everyone at ‘The ‘Grass’.

And music is just the beginning! With four distinct zones, sports and Frisbee, a little haven for the kids, off-the-wall programming, handicrafts and the best festival food in China – there’s much more on offer than your average festival.

In fact, we’ll put it this way: Concrete & Grass is the best family weekend getwaway out there. The happiest weekend of the year. Fun for both parents and kids.

At the heart of it all is our “Jimboomba” zone – a luxurious corner of the festival that offers ‘Grass life in glorious slow-motion. Here you’ll find ‘We Are Cubs’, our full-fledged kids zone, a handicrafts market, singer-songwriters playing acoustic sets, music workshops and a few surprises.

We are Cubs

The ‘Grass Kids Zone. Curated by Awesome Kids Club.

Concrete & Grass is fun for the whole family! The festival welcomes children of all ages, and dreams to create a relaxed, family-friendly environment in our special We Are Cubs space for the littlest of music lovers, presented this year in partnership with Awesome Kids Club, Coach23 and Music LAB.

We’ve got tons of fun activities and performances taking place from 12-7pm on both days of the festival. It’s pitched at children and big kids alike to enjoy, and there’s plenty for parents to do all in the general vicinity. Concrete & Grass takes place on a beautiful open ground with real grass, and we’re making sure the kids have their own little space to run around safely.

Here’s what we have planned:

  • Mini-game Madness! (Sack Race Bags, Egg and Spoon Races plus a few surprises): Mini-games for groups of kids or families to enjoy. We’ll have volunteers on hand to help, maybe even occasional challenges and competitions.

  • Family-Friendly C&G Calendar: We’re curating a schedule of family-friendly acts that families can catch on our big stages, from chilled-out folk to playful pop music.

  • Music Workshops: A Samba ‘Batucada’ or rhythm workshop, where kids make handmade drums and play along while singing, dancing and groovin’. Presented by Music Lab.

  • Sports Carnival: High-octane sports-powered activities for the kiddos – details to be announced!

Here are a few more photos to whet your appetite. We hope to see you at 'Grass next week!
