7 Easy Summer Sangrias to Help You Keep Your Cool

Be the "coolest" family on the block with these chilled treats

Summer's here and so is the sweltering Shanghai heat. But have no fear, we've rounded up seven sangria recipes to help you beat the heat and bring to your next outdoor summer party – or to simply to enjoy at home. We've also included two non-alcoholic varieties for kids too!

1. Berry iced tea sangria

Wine makes everything better and that includes iced tea. Also, the berries add delightful bursts of tartness to cut through the sweetness.

Ingredients:

  • 2 liters sweetened iced tea, chilled
  • 1 (750 ml) bottle Red Moscato or other sweet red wine, chilled
  • 2 cups berry juice chilled
  • 1 kg strawberries, blackberries, blueberries and raspberries

What's next?

  1. Hull and slice all the strawberries
  2. Place the fruit into a large pitcher
  3. Pour in the sweet tea, berry juice, and bottle of wine
  4. Chill for at least an hour
  5. Spoon some fruit into each glass before serving

2. Apple cider Sangria

If you're already ready for fall to come, this is the perfect drink for you. Spruce up your recipe up by adding different types of apples to the mix.

Ingredients:

  • 3 apples
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 orange
  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 2 bottles ginger beer
  • 1 bottle white wine

What's next? 

  1. Slice the apples, into thin wedges and the lemons and oranges into semi-circle slices
  2. Pour the apple cider and white wine into a glass pitcher
  3. Chill the pitcher, as well as the ginger beer, for at least one hour
  4. Pour the ginger beer into the pitcher just before serving
  5. Spoon some apples into each glass and top off with the sangria

3. Citrus white wine sangria

A zingy, fruity sangria to keep you alert and fresh during those summer heatwaves. 

Ingredients

  • 1 large orange
  • 2 lemons
  • 2 limes
  • ¼ cup fresh mint leaves
  • ½ cup citrus vodka
  • 2 tbs agave nectar
  • 2 bottles of dry white wine
  • mint sprigs to garnish (optional)

What's next? 

  1. Slice the oranges, lemons and limes into thin semicircle slices
  2. Lightly bruise the mint to let out the aromas
  3. In a large pitcher, combine the orange slices, lemons, limes, mint leaves and agave nectar
  4. Pour in the white wine and chill for at least an hour
  5. Spoon some fruit into each glass before topping off with the sangria
  6. Add any leftover sprigs of mint to garnish each glass

4. Classic red sangria

You really can't go wrong with a classic red sangria; you can thank the Spaniards for that. 

Ingredients: 

  • 1 bottle red wine
  • 1/4 cup triple sec
  • 1/4 cup brandy
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 cup blueberries
  • 2 oranges
  • 5 limes
  • 2 lemons
  • 1 cup cold seltzer

What's next?

  1. Slice the oranges, lemons and three of the limes
  2. Add the fruit into a large pitcher as well as the blueberries, sugar and the juice of the remaining limes
  3. Pour in the brandy, triple sec and red wine
  4. Chill for minimum of one hour
  5. Add the cold seltzer right before serving
  6. Spoon some fruit into each glass before topping off with the sangria

5. Blueberry lemonade sangria

The perfect combination of tart and sweet. Add fresh thyme stems to each glass for a unique aroma. 

Ingredients: 

  • 1 1/2 cups frozen blueberries
  • 2 cups frozen concentrated pink lemonade
  • 1 bottle Chardonnay
  • 2 cups lime soda 
  • 1/2 cup Cognac
  • 1 lemon
  • fresh thyme sprigs to garnish (optional)

What's next? 

  1. Slice the lemon
  2. Add the lemons and blueberries into a large pitcher
  3. Pour in the chardonnay, Cognac and concentrated pink lemonade
  4. Chill for minimum one hour
  5. Pour in the lime soda just before serving
  6. Add a fresh sprig of thyme and a spoonful of blueberries to each glass 
  7. Top off with chilled sangria

6. [Virgin] Summer fruit sangria

This is the perfect beverage for kids or those that can't drink: the peach and strawberry slices leftover in the glass are absolutely delicious too!

Ingredients: 

  • 1 cup white grape juice
  • 1 cup peach juice
  • 1 liter ginger ale
  • 2 limes
  • 1 orange
  • 1-2 cups strawberries
  • 1/2 cup of cherries
  • 1 peach
  • lime wedges to garnish (optional)

What's next? 

  1. Slice the limes, peach and orange into thin semi-circle slices
  2. Slice the cherries and strawberries in half, reserving some strawberries to be left whole
  3. Place all the fruit into a large pitcher and pour in the grape juice and peach juice
  4. Chill for at least an hour
  5. Add in the ginger ale just before serving
  6. Serve with ice and a few spoons of fruit into each glass

7. [Virgin] Citrus sangria

Though more a punch than a sangria, serve it in a wine glass for a fancy feel!

Ingredients: 

  • 1 1/2 cups grape juice, white unsweetened
  • 1 liter bottle ginger ale
  • 1 liter orange juice
  • 2 cups ice cubes
  • 1 orange 
  • 1 lime
  • blueberries to garnish (optional)

What's next? 

  1. Slice the orange and lime into thin, semi-circle slices
  2. Add the sliced fruit and blueberries into a large pitcher
  3. Pour in the orange juice and grape juice
  4. Chill for at least an hour
  5. Add in the ginger ale just before serving
  6. Serve each glass over ice and with a few spoonfuls of fruit
